Job Purpose

  • The Hospital Administrator (HA) fulfills the leadership role as an “owner” of the hospital’s success. The HA is accountable for significant results across all areas of hospital performance and growth, including revenue, profitability, productivity, staff training and performance, client satisfaction, and marketing effectiveness.
  • The HA must be active, visible, and involved with staff, clients, and the handling of patients daily. They must also participate externally by developing relationships with industry groups, related professionals, and community organizations.
  • The HA manages the financial health and growth of the hospital, gaining a deep understanding of the hospital’s financial status and using it as a tool to monitor, measure, and improve performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the hospital.
  • Support, coach, correct, develop, and motivate employees, particularly at the management level.
  • Develop and implement growth strategies in conjunction with the Medical Director (MD).
  • Monitor and manage facility, administrative, and labor costs pursuant to budget.
  • Analyze, forecast, recommend, and implement solutions regarding revenue, DVM productivity, profit margins, capital expenditures, labor costs, budgeting, AR/AP, and reserves.
  • Streamline and establish protocols for staff/client interactions.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce the highest level of client service; function as client liaison when necessary.
  • Partner with the marketing team to design and implement strategies that ensure continual growth of the practice.
  • Participate in industry and community activities while developing new marketing projects and events.
  • Maintain compliance with all laws, regulations, policies, benefits, and contracts.
  • Develop, control, and optimize organizational culture initiatives, owning facilitation, optimization, and engagement within the hospital.
  • Develop and implement onboarding, orientation, and employee life cycle training systems; share best practices with other hospitals.
  • Optimize efficiency across all aspects of hospital operations.
  • Act as a champion for change and servant leader by modeling and promoting best practices.
  • Establish and implement goals for the practice and staff; plan and lead effective employee meetings.
  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively; take corrective action in accordance with company policy. Consult with the MD and owners as appropriate.
  • Lead managers directly and all employees indirectly.
  • Uphold the spirit of the hospital by handling necessary tasks requiring attention.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or CVPM required.
  • 5+ years of hospital management experience in a large hospital setting.
  • 10+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Effective decision-making ability.
  • Experience in developing budgets and writing business plans.
