Job Purpose

  • The Associate Veterinarian (DVM) plays a critical role in delivering high-quality medical care to patients and fostering strong client relationships. The DVM provides comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, and surgical services while promoting a culture of compassion, trust, and excellence within the hospital.
  • The Associate Veterinarian supports the Medical Director (MD) and Hospital Administrator (HA) in achieving the hospital’s mission, ensuring both clinical and operational standards are met.
  • The DVM is expected to stay current on veterinary medicine through continuing education, mentoring staff, and actively contributing to hospital growth and community presence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional medical, surgical, and dental care to patients in accordance with current veterinary standards.
  • Conduct thorough examinations, diagnose conditions, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans.
  • Deliver preventive medicine services, including wellness exams, vaccinations, and client education.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient medical records.
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships through clear communication, empathy, and trust.
  • Educate clients on preventive care, nutrition, behavior, and treatment options to support overall patient health.
  • Collaborate with the MD, HA, and veterinary team to achieve hospital goals and uphold protocols.
  • Mentor and support veterinary technicians, assistants, and junior veterinarians in clinical practices and professional development.
  • Actively participate in hospital meetings, case discussions, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards in veterinary medicine.
  • Promote and represent the hospital positively within the community and veterinary profession.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
  • Active state veterinary license in good standing (or ability to obtain).
  • Strong medical, surgical, and diagnostic skills with a commitment to evidence-based medicine.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with both clients and team members.
  • Compassionate, client-focused, and collaborative mindset.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education.
